Heather Burning
In order for heather to be kept young and vigorous it has to be controlled with fires, otherwise it grows too long and dies from underneath.
Burning takes place between October and April when sections are burned in rotation.
Uncontrolled fires can burn too fiercely and set fire to the peat in which the heather grows. Not only can these fires be very difficult to put out, but where the peat is burnt the heather is destroyed.
Crayford offer a range vehicles designed to facilitate heather burning to encourage new growth. Besides offering all weather capability, Argo vehicles give speed, flexibility and easy access to large tracts of land to enable burning of concentrated strips of heather moorland and thereby protection of nesting grounds for birds like Grouse.
